When I first got this beat for the semester, I figured it would be fun traveling from Marin to Fillmore St. on a regular basis, eating the food, shopping, and checking out the local bar scene. I had no idea how much history and culture lay behind the facade of this "happening" area. From the Clay-Fillmore Theatre (that almost got closed down) to a hat store where the owner has met not only the president, but Hollywood celebrities as well, to a phenomenal Mediterranean restaurant. The jazz scene is pretty big on Fillmore, too. During my travels through the busy street this past Sunday, I decided to take some pictures of what I discovered.
To my pleasant surprise, many of the people were willing to share their experiences about living or working on Fillmore. Many of the stores have been around for longer than I have been alive (mind you, that's 21 years), which adds more depth and history behind this amazing street.
I am definitely looking forward to uncovering much more about Fillmore and sharing my discoveries with all of you!
THANKS, Leigh. I look forward to hearing more, too. How about some captions on those fabulous photos?
